“On this day, the boy called the clear sky a present”
Kate Gilbertson

The mother/ the woman/ the one taller than the son/ the shorter/ the one who wears stripes on special occasions/ the special occasion is ice cream in the rain/ the rain bothers the son/ the son doesn't bother the mother/

the woman/ the one with the same colored hair/ the hair wet and stringy/ the hair getting in the little boy’s face/ the face can barely make out the ice cream flavors/ the flavors are (chocolate, etc.) deciphered through the hair of the mother/

the woman/ the one with the parachuter’s embrace/ the lips pecking down/ the forehead getting kissed/ the smaller forehead/ the one without the lines on them yet/ the boy with no wrinkles asks for a suggestion from the mother/

the woman/ the one who is crying/ the one who is letting tears fall onto the forehead of the son/ the son who lets them fall and calls it rain/ the rain is getting lighter/ the best flavor for him is banana creampie/ the one who holds him will get one too/ the mother/

the woman/ the one rushing back to the car quickly with two cones/ the one who is followed by the son/ the one taking longer because of his legs/ the son notices the clouds are gone/ the rain on his forehead is forgotten.

The son/ the boy/ the one shorter than the mother/ the mother who watches her baby’s
cheek’s pinch from the ice cream’s coldness/ the woman makes a wish/ the wish is to be
smaller/ the size of her son’s mouth. the chance to hug the inside of his cheeks.
